So I've wanted a new hobby for soooo long, and out of sheer boredom (A commonplace thing for me, for the longest time...) I looked up some Bob Ross 'Joy of Painting' videos, and began to watch a few I really liked. When I was younger, I used to watch Joy of Painting almost religiously every single Saturday on PBS, and marveled at the way that man could take an empty canvas, and make a landscape so realistic-looking, you could almost jump right into the painting and become swept away in his fantasy world.

Then, I was struck with an idea. My pc has Corel Painter X, and I have inherited my husband's old graphic tablet, after he bought a new one for his schoolwork. Soo... you can kinda guess what happened next, right? ^.~ Yep, I started messing around with paints and brushes, and I have fallen in love with the fun and blending ability of acrylic. After one barely successful attempt to imitate a Bob Ross painting, by watching an episode of JOP and following along, I realized that his instructions were not meant for digital artistry ._.'

Not one to give up so easily, I gave his painting my own take, as you can see in my painting featured in this profile, entitled, "Sunset Stretch." Then, after trying unsuccessfully to imitate his method of using liquid white and Gesso layers on his canvases before painting, I decided to experiment with my own form, by using a layer of black acrylic under the area I was about to paint, and watched it blend so nicely, as you can see in another painting of mine, "Oceana."

With Oceana, I gave the entire bottom section a layer of black before painting over it, and the top a layer of white, which I think worked quite nicely.

As I play around with brushes, techniques, and different styles, I plan on improving, and creating my own form, and I hope those who see what I put up on DeviantArt are happy with what I create.
